I understand that Fairfax County Public Schools are undergoing a comprehensive school boundaries review.  In response to the county’s community engagement, I would like to provide my perspective.

I have considered the impacts that boundary changes could have on student-well being and mental health, instructional quality, and equitable access to excellence and opportunities. 

As a resident of the [  ] neighborhood within the boundaries of Waples Mill Elementary, Franklin Middle, and Oakton High Schools, it is my view that Waples Mill Elementary and the Oakton community are best served by keeping existing school boundaries intact.

School changes are disruptive to the educational experiences and social connections of children, and there are other options that would be better aligned with Fairfax County Public Schools’ stated goals of ensuring access to programming, addressing capacity of schools, promoting attendance zones that maintain neighborhood groupings, and consideration of transportation times.
